BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26. The Iranian government has held consultations with some countries, including Azerbaijan and Russia, on electricity swaps, a member of the Iranian parliament's energy committee Malik Shariati told Tasnim News Agency, Trend reports.

The MP noted that swaps with neighboring countries such as Azerbaijan and Russia can help alleviate electricity shortages in Iran during the summer months.

“Thus, Iran can import electricity when it needs it and export it when it does not,” he added.

According to Shariati, Iranian Energy Ministry is implementing a number of plans to remove the electricity shortage in the summer.

The electricity shortage in Iran this summer is estimated to be about 10,000 megawatt-hours per day.

As reported, Iran imports about 100 megawatt-hours of electricity daily from Azerbaijan during the summer months. With the establishment of the North-South Electric Corridor between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia, Iran could increase electricity imports from Azerbaijan in summer to 300 megawatt-hours daily in the first stage.
