BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. Japan’s INPEX Corporation will to consider expanding use of renewable fuel, the company told Trend.

INPEX CORPORATION, INPEX LOGISTICS, ITOCHU Corporation and ITOCHU ENEX CO., LTD. have recently started collaboration on the use of Renewable Diesel, a fuel derived from renewable resources, in tank trucks for the first time in Japan.

“The diesel fuel previously used for the tank trucks (lorries) will be marketed. We strive to reduce CO2 emissions throughout the INPEX Group as a whole, including INPEX Logistics and its footprint on the local region where it is based. As such we will consider expanding the use of renewable fuel in general,” said the company.

INPEX said it is considering expanding sales of renewable diesel procured by the ITOCHU Group in the Hokuriku and Koshinetsu regions of Japan, where the INPEX Group has an existing marketing and supply network for petroleum and petroleum products.

“We will recommend our customers to shift to renewable diesel so that we may reduce CO2 emissions across the supply chain,” the company said.

INPEX Logistics will use RD procured by ITOCHU from Neste OYJ, the world's leading producer of renewable fuel, and supplied by ITOCHU ENEX, to fuel 18 tank trucks transporting domestic crude oil and petroleum products in the Hokuriku and Koshinetsu regions.

This is the first case for RD being used in this region as well as being used for tank trucks in Japan. Prior to this collaboration, ITOCHU concluded a purchase agreement with Neste for the stable supply of RD to Japan, and ITOCHU ENEX has established a supply chain for the transportation and refueling of RD in Japan. This time, collaboration was realized by combining ITOCHU Group’s supply chain with INPEX Group's sales network in the Hokuriku and Koshinetsu regions.
