BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.9.The commercial register in Bulgaria issued a formal refusal to register changes in the management system of ICGB AD, the project company for the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB), that is aimed at transporting Azerbaijani gas, the ICGB AD told Trend.

“The stated argument is insufficient data for the identification of one of the members of the Management Board from the Greek side as a result of his name being spelled differently in Bulgarian, Greek and English. This discrepancy can be easily fixed and ICGB has submitted all required documentation to validate the fact that in all languages the data concerns the same person,” said the project company.

ICGB AD said that having the new management structure published in the Bulgarian commercial register is the most important element for fulfilling the requirement of the certification decision of the national energy regulators of Bulgaria and Greece (EWRC and RAE), also approved by the European Commission.

“Certification is a key regulatory element for initiating commercial operation of the Greece-Bulgaria gas interconnector and ICGB remains hopeful that the process will receive green light for completion by the relevant institutions. All efforts of the company remain focused on achieving commercial launch prior to the upcoming heating season. ICGB’s working closely with the Greek EPC contractor and all relevant institutions in both host countries for prompt achievement of Act 15 and Act 16 that would respectively allow for the start of commercial operations. The company will be providing regular updates in that regard as per the usual,” said the project company.

The IGB project is of key importance for increasing security of supply and for ensuring diversification of natural gas sources for Bulgaria and the region of Southeast Europe. At the regional level, IGB will provide access to the gas transmission network for Bulgarian municipalities and regions that didn’t have an option for connectivity. The interconnector with Greece is an entirely new route for the transmission of natural gas to Europe and will give Bulgaria and the region access to supplies from new sources. The project will connect the country with the Southern Gas Corridor and has excellent synergy with other major energy projects such as TAP, TANAP, EastMed and the LNG terminal at Alexandroupolis.
