BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. Iran has increased power generation potential of the country’s thermal power plants to prevent interruptions in electricity supply in the summer (June 22 through September 22, 2022), Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Mohammad Ramazani said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

Over the past years, electricity was supplied intermittently in Iran during the summer season, when it was used at its peak.

Ramazani noted that as a result of the construction of new power units, as well as making certain changes in the country's thermal power plants during the past one year, more than 4,000 megawatt-hours were added to the country's electricity generation capacity.

“Of this volume, 3,000 megawatt-hours were added to the country’s electricity generation capacity by creating 17 new power units,” he said.

The deputy director also added that at the same time over 1,000 megawatt-hours were added to the country’s electricity generation capacity by making a number of changes and eliminating some problems in the units of gas and combined cycle plants.

According to him, the power generation capacity of Iran’s TPPs is currently more than 72,000 megawatt-hours. With the launch of several new power units in the country in the next few days, the TPP’s power generation capacity will again increase.

In total, 599 power units inside 132 TPPs have been commissioned in Iran.

The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently over 89,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 81 percent accounts for the country’s thermal power plants.
