Iran issues licenses for construction of renewable energy power plants

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 23. Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization has issued licenses to 8 companies operating in the country's steel, copper, and petrochemical industries to build renewable energy power plants with a capacity to generate 2,314 megawatt-hours of electricity, an official of the organization Ahmad Reza Tavakkoli said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

According to Tavakkoli, solar panel power plants with a generation capacity of 1,877 megawatt-hours will be installed, as well as wind power plants with a generation capacity of 400 megawatt-hours and waste heat recovery stations with a capacity of 37 megawatt-hours will be built.

The official added that a total of 17 companies applied to the organization to obtain a license for the construction of renewable energy power plants in the country.

“Currently, Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization review the applications of 9 companies for the construction of renewable energy power plants with a capacity to generate 1,062 megawatt-hours of electricity,” he said.

The official also noted that Iran’s Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization has invited industrial owners to build renewable energy power plants in order to overcome their electricity shortage in the coming years.
