BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 28. Gasoline consumption in Iran has exceeded the country's gasoline production in recent days, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.

He made the remark at an event regarding the supply of gas to certain cities and villages in Iran on August 28, 2022.

“In recent days, daily gasoline consumption in the country was 120-130 million liters. However, Iran’s daily gasoline production stood at about 104 million liters,” the minister noted.

Owji added that Iran's stored gasoline reserves were used to meet the gasoline demand in the country on the mentioned days. It is hoped that the citizens will use gasoline more efficiently and there will be no shortage of gasoline in the coming days.

The minister also said that after 20 years, the last inactive - 11th phase of Iran's South Pars gas field will be launched in the winter at the expense of local contracting companies. It is expected that 10-11 million cubic meters of gas will be produced daily from this phase.

On August 28, Iranian 16 cities, 1,091 villages and 1,959 industrial facilities are supplied with gas. In this regard, 78 trillion rials (about $1.86 billion) has been spent.

At the same time, the work on supplying gas to 9 cities, 928 villages and 2,091 industrial facilities in the country have been started. About 53 trillion rials (about $1.26 billion) will be spent in this regard.

In addition, the laying of Zarand and Zahedan gas pipelines has been started. In this regard, 25 trillion rials (about $595 million) will be spent.

The South Pars gas field (called North Dome in Qatar) is a joint gas field of Iran and Qatar. The proven reserves of the South Pars Gas Field are estimated at 51 trillion cubic meters of gas, of which 36 trillion are extractable. Iran's share in the field is 14 trillion cubic meters of gas and 18 billion barrels of gas condensate.

Over the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Iran produced a total of 231 billion cubic meters of rich gas from the South Pars gas field. Reportedly, Iran's gas production from the mentioned field reached 705 million cubic meters per day at the end of the last Iranian year.

In 2017, the project to develop the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field was entrusted to France's Total, China's CNPCI and Iran's Petropars. However, the foreign companies have refused to carry out operations at the 11th phase of the South Pars gas field as a result of US sanctions against Iran. As a result, the operations at this phase were fully entrusted to the Petropars Operation and Management Company (POMC).
