BAKU, Azerbaijan, September 12. Iran’s Energy Ministry plans to increase electricity generation capacity of the country’s power plants by about 6,000 megawatt-hours by the summer of next year (March 21, 2023 through March 20, 2024), Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Amir Dudabinejad said, Trend reports citing the TPPH’s website.

“At present, about 80 percent of the country's electricity generation is provided by thermal power plants, 12 percent - by hydroelectric power plants, while the rest - by renewable, nuclear and small-scale power plants,” he said.

The deputy director added that it was planned to increase the electricity generation in the country by 6,000 megawatt-hours in the summer season of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023). Of this, 4,500 megawatt-hours were achieved with launch of 23 new power units, as well as increasing the generation capacity of 286 existing power units.

Dudabinejad also noted that it takes 3.5 years to build each unit of the combined cycle power plant and 600-650 million euros for each 1,000 MWh of electricity generation. It is expected that there will be a big increase in the country's electricity generation in the coming years.
