BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 14. The National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) signed 2 new contracts in the oil sector with Shahid Beheshti University (SBU) and Khuzestan Science and Technology Park (KHSTP), on December 13, 2022, Trend reports referring to Shana News Agency.

According to the contract signed between the NISOC and the SBU, the reasons for the acidification of the oil in the Asmari reservoir of the Marun oil field will be studied.

Under the mentioned contract, research work will last 18 months and will cost about 19.5 billion rials (about $464,000) and 124,000 euros.

In addition, within the other contract signed between the KHSTP and the NISOC, a study will be conducted on developing a model to estimate the amount of water injected into oil reservoirs by using artificial intelligence and data related to oil wells.

The research work will last 18 months and will cost about 30 billion rials (about $714,000) under the contract.

The National Iranian South Oil Company, a subordinate of the National Iranian Oil Company, operates 45 large and small hydrocarbon deposits in an area of 400,000 square kilometers from Iran's Bushehr Province to the north of Khuzestan Province.

The company extracts about 80 percent of Iran's crude oil and 16 percent of its gas. The company reportedly extracts about 3 million barrels of oil per day.

The Marun oil field is Iran's third largest oil field and is located in the Khuzestan Province (southwestern Iran). The field contains about 46 billion barrels of crude oil, of which 22 billion barrels can be extracted. It is estimated that Iran extracts daily more than 500,000 barrels of crude oil from the field.
