BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. The average mazut consumption of Iran's thermal power plants per day has decreased by 7 percent, since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 to January 24, 2023), compared to the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), Trend reports citing the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company’s website.

According to the report, on average, 17.2 million liters of mazut have been consumed daily in Iran's thermal power plants since the beginning of the current Iranian year, while, the figure stood at an average of 18.5 million liters per day in the last year.

Meanwhile, 9 years ago (March 21, 2013, through March 20, 2014), 41.7 million liters of mazut were consumed daily in the country's thermal power plants, which is 59 percent more than in the current Iranian year.

At present, the country's TPPs mainly use gas as fuel.

Generally, 43.4 billion cubic meters of gas were consumed by Iran’s thermal power plants within the first six months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2022).

So far, 605 units have been installed in 134 thermal power plants in the country. The power generation capacity of Iran's TPPs is 73,086 hours.
