BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 9. Two new gas units of the Mahtab Kavir Combined Cycle Power Plant in Iran’s Kerman Province in the south-east of the country were put into operation, on February 9, 2023, Trend reports citing the Iranian Energy Ministry.

Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and other officials attended the event dedicated to the launch of the mentioned power units in Zarand County of the province.

Currently, Mahtab Kavir Combined Cycle Power Plant’s gas units have the capacity to generate 324 megawatt-hours of electricity.

Along with gas units, the construction and launch of a steam unit at this station are on agenda. As a result, the power plant's electricity generation capacity will reach 484 megawatt-hours.

The construction of mentioned 2 gas units of the Mahtab Kavir Combined Cycle Power Plant cost over 50 trillion rials (about $1.19 billion).

The station’s gas units of use natural gas as the main fuel and diesel as an alternative. Each unit consumes 50,000 cubic meters of natural gas or 45,000 liters of diesel per hour.

Some 200 people were provided with jobs with the launch of gas units.

In addition to the gas units of Mahtab Kavir Combined Cycle Power Plant, a number of substations and facilities for power supply will be launched in Iran’s Kerman Province on February 9. A total of 19 trillion rials (about $452 million) has been spent on the mentioned facilities.
