BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 21. The 3rd steam unit of Iran’s Urmia Thermal Power Plant in West Azerbaijan Province (north-western Iran) was connected to the country's electricity network, on February 21, 2023, Deputy Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Mohammad Ramazani said, Trend reports citing the company’s website.

Ramazani noted that the mentioned steam unit has capacity to generate 160 megawatt-hours of electricity.

The deputy director added that thus, the power generation capacity of Urmia TPP reached 1,478 megawatt-hours.

According to him, a total of 128 million euros were spent on the construction and launch of the 3-rd steam unit.

Ramazani also said that the activity of the 3rd steam unit will allow the saving of 785 million cubic meters of gas as fuel per year.

In total, Iran's Urmia TPP has 6 gas units and 3 steam units.

At present, there are 134 thermal power plants operating in Iran. So far, 612 power units have been installed in the mentioned power plants. The power generation capacity of Iran’s TPPs is currently 73,695 megawatt-hours.
