BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 17. Electricity generation of renewable energy power plants in Iran increased by 98.4 percent for the 12th month of the last Iranian year (February 20 through March 20, 2023), compared to the 11th month (January 21 through February 19, 2023), Trend reports via the report of the Iranian Energy Ministry.
Iran’s renewable energy power plants generated a total of 121 million kilowatt-hours of electricity for the 12th month of the last Iranian year, while in the 11th month, the figure stood at 61 million kilowatt-hours.
"As a result of the operation of the mentioned power plants for the 12th month, 33 million cubic meters of gas were saved in Iran, which is an increase of 106 percent compared to 16 million cubic meters in the 11th month," said the report.
In addition, 27 million liters of water were saved in the country as a result of the operation of the renewable energy power plants over the 12th month. This is an increase of 107 percent compared to the 13 million liters in the 11th month.
Also, the release of 68,000 tons of greenhouse gases (CO2) into the environment gas was prevented by the operation of these power plants in Iran for the 12th month, which is an increase of 100 percent compared to the 34,000 tons in the 11th month.
Currently, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.
