BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 18. A joint meeting of the delegations of Iran and Russia in the field of energy, with the participation of Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji and Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak was held in Tehran, on May 16, 2023, Trend reports citing Shana News Agency.
During the meeting, the directions of cooperation between Iran and Russia in the field of energy (including, oil, gas, petrochemical, atomic energy, and electricity) have been discussed.
It was decided at the meeting that the Russian side should soon complete the exploration of Iran's oil fields and present its assessment of the fields.
Also, the continuation of discussions on cooperation in the gas field was emphasized. Iranian officials say that contracts will be signed between the two countries in the field of gas.
Furthermore, there are a number of projects between the two countries in the field of electricity. Currently, Russia has financed the construction of the Sirik thermal power plant in Iran.
At the same time, the synchronization of the power network among Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran was discussed at the meeting.
Regarding the construction of the 2nd and 3rd phases of the Bushehr nuclear power plant, financial issues were discussed at the meeting, and it was decided to start the construction work soon.
Work is underway on the project of creating a North-South Energy Corridor between Iran, Azerbaijan, and Russia. The goal is to synchronize the power networks of the three countries. The necessary design work related to this project is carried out by Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers Company.
According to the agreement between Iran and Russia, the construction of Sirik TPP in Iran's Hormozgan Province started in 2016. The station, which is being built on an area of 199 hectares, will have 4 units with the capacity to generate 350 megawatt-hours of electricity each. In total, 1.4 billion euros will be invested in the construction of this station. Of the mentioned funds, 85 percent will be provided by the loans of the Russian side, while 15 percent by Iran.
