BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has drilled over 1.26 million meters from 2012 to 2022, a source familiar with the matter told Trend.
Around 43,300 meters were drilled for exploration purposes, while 1.21 million meters accounted for development wells.
The source noted that during this period, construction of 756 wells were completed, 15 of which are exploration and 741 are development wells.
In 2022, SOCAR performed more than 73,000 meters of drilling work, or 18.6 percent more than in 2021. The company produced 7.8 million tons of oil2 and 8.1 billion cubic meters of gas3 from the independently operated fields or as the main shareholder. Compared to the corresponding period of 2021, natural gas production recorded a 2.7 percent increase. The gas production across the country continued to creep upward and reached 46.7 billion cubic meters, a 6.6 percent increase compared to 2021. In total, 32.6 million tons of crude oil were produced in Azerbaijan in 2022.
