Power generation of Iran’s TPPs exceeds 80 million MW

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 25. The electricity generation of Iran's thermal power plants was more than 80 million megawatts, during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21 through June 21, 2023), Deputy Director of Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), Nasser Eskanadari said, Trend reports.

Eskandari noted that thermal power plants accounted for 81 percent of the total electricity generation in Iran for 3 months.

The deputy director added that electricity generation of combined cycle units for the reporting period increased by 4 percent compared to the same period in the last year and amounted to over 44 million megawatts, which accounted for more than 55 percent of the TPPs total production.

“In 3 months, 18 million megawatts of electricity were generated by steam units of thermal power plants and 18 million megawatts by gas units,” he said.

There are currently 616 power units operating in 134 TPPs in Iran. The power generation capacity of the country's thermal power plants is 74,198 megawatt-hours.

At present, the power generation capacity of Iran's all power plants including, thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, etc. is approximately 91,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 82 percent are accounted for by the country’s thermal power plants.

Overall, Iran’s thermal power plants generated approximately 333 million megawatts of electricity over the last Iranian year, which is an increase of 3 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022).
