BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 4. Iran's annual ethane production will increase to 5 million tons in the near future, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Majid Chegeni said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at an event dedicated to the signing of a memorandum on increasing ethane production between Iran’s South Pars Gas Company and Tadbir Energy Development Group in Tehran on July 3, 2023, adding that currently, Iran produces about 4.2 million tons of ethane gas per year and supplies it to the country's petrochemical plants.
“With the mentioned increase, ethane gas production in the country is expected to exceed the consumption until March 21, 2025. However, after that date, the country will experience a shortage of ethane due to the launching of Kiyan Petrochemical Plant, Hormoz Petrochemical Plant, Parsian Sepehr Petrochemical Plant and other facilities. In this regard, it is necessary to constantly focus on increasing the production of ethane,” Chegeni noted.
On July 3, the CEO South Pars Gas Company (SPGC), Ahmad Bahush, and, Director of the Tadbir Energy Development Group, Hamid Reza Khalili signed a memorandum on increasing ethane production at South Pars Gas Company .
Iran’s South Pars Gas Company has the capacity to produce 15,500 tons of ethane/day. A certain part of the produced ethane is sent in the form of fuel to Iran's Morvarid Petrochemical Company, Kavian Petrochemical Company and Jam Petrochemical Company.
