BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 8. In total, $8 billion is needed to improve the refining quality in the oil refining industry in Iran, said Nasser Ashouri, secretary-general of Iran’s Oil Refining Industry Companies Association (ORICA), Trend reports.

According to Ashouri, 13 projects have been devised to improve the quality of refining at the country's oil refineries. For these initiatives, preliminary measures have been done. However, the state's assistance is required for the projects to be completed completely.

"Currently, 35 percent of the gasoline produced in the country complies with the Euro 5 standard, and the rest complies with the Euro 4 standard," he added.

The secretary general further stated that the development of three oil refineries (Mehr Khalic, Aftab, and Behin Qeshm) is being carried out with the assistance of Iran's Oil Refining Industry Companies Association. The Khalic Mehr refinery is currently 43 percent complete in terms of physical progress. If the aforementioned refinery is built, it will produce 10-15 million liters of gasoline per day.

Iran's ten oil refineries currently process 2,286,000 barrels of crude oil and gas condensate per day. Iran generates 115 million liters of gasoline each day on average.
