BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. This week Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan signed a roadmap on development of energy cooperation for 2023-2025, Trend reports.

The roadmap, covering 14 directions, envisages cooperation in geological exploration and production of hydrocarbon resources, as well as the establishment of joint ventures in both countries.

According to the document, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan will also cooperate in the fields of renewable energy sources, energy sector reform, efficient use of energy resources, energy transition, decarbonization, exchange of information and experience related to hydrogen production.

In addition, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan discussed the implementation of joint projects on the development of hydrocarbon resources.

This week, SOCAR and Uzbekneftegaz signed an agreement on the development of joint projects, specifically on the participation of Uzbekneftegaz in oil and gas projects in Azerbaijan, as well as a cooperation agreement between SOCAR, the Ministry of Mining and Geology of Uzbekistan and Uzbekneftegaz on the participation of SOCAR in oil and gas projects in Uzbekistan.

In addition, Azerbaijan and the USA discussed the prospects of bilateral energy cooperation.

This week it was reported that CJSC "SOCAR PETROLEUM" put into operation a new gas station in Ismayilli district.

It also became known about the conclusion of an oil drilling contract between "SOCAR AQS Sondaj Mühendislik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş" (SOCAR AQS Türkiye) - a subsidiary of the drilling company "SOCAR AQS" and the Turkish state oil company "TPAO".

According to SOCAR AQS, the company will provide drilling services for four onshore oil wells in the southeastern region of Türkiye.

Nataly Mouravidze, head of EBRD operations in Azerbaijan, said this week that it is important to develop a national hydrogen strategy that prioritizes sustainable development laws and frameworks to stimulate low-carbon hydrogen production. Azerbaijan will also need to harmonize this strategy with international laws and regulations in this area.

Furthermore, commenting on the timing of the first RES auction in Azerbaijan, Mouravidze said that it is expected to take place at the end of this year.

"We are very proud to support the project of the first private solar power plant in Garadagh. The installed capacity will be 230 MW. Nevertheless, we do not want to stop there. We are also working with the Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy to develop a renewable energy auction scheme and we expect the first such auction to be held by the end of the year," she said.
