BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug.29. Italy disbursed a total of 2.8 billion euros on natural gas imports from Azerbaijan in the period spanning from January to June 2023, Eurostat, the statistical agency of the European Union, told Trend.

The breakdown of these gas imports reveals that in June, the value of gas received from Azerbaijan by Italy amounted to 263.5 million euros, marking a noteworthy decrease from May, where it stood at 365.8 million euros — a 28 percent month-on-month reduction.

Over the course of the initial half of 2023, Italy received more than 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan. In June, gas deliveries to Italy reached 745.2 million cubic meters, dipping by 2.5 percent in comparison to May's figure of 764.2 million cubic meters.

Meanwhile, the energy ministry’s data from January to June 2023 indicates that Azerbaijan produced 24.1 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Of this total, 6.5 billion cubic meters were extracted from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, while 13.2 billion cubic meters came from the Shah Deniz field. The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) contributed 4.4 billion cubic meters to the overall gas production during this period. Additionally, gas transportation saw a 0.7 billion cubic meter increase, signifying a 3 percent rise compared to the same period the previous year.

Gas sales during this period amounted to 12 billion cubic meters, indicating a 7.5 percent growth compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. Of this total, approximately 5 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey, 5.7 billion cubic meters to Europe, and 1.3 billion cubic meters to Georgia. Notably, more than 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas were exported to Turkey through the Trans Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP) during this time.

Azerbaijan fulfills its gas supplies to Europe via the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), the concluding segment of the Southern Gas Corridor, which has a capacity of 10 billion cubic meters, with the potential to expand to 20 billion cubic meters annually.
