BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 21. Iran’s renewable energy power plants generated a total of 234 million kilowatts of electricity in the first half of the current Iranian year (March 21 through September 22, 2023), Trend reports.
The data from Iran’s Energy Ministry shows that the renewable energy power plants helped to avoid 131,000 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and save 63 million cubic meters of gas and 52 million liters of water in the same period.
By September 22, 2023, Iran had a total of 1,088 megawatts of renewable energy power generation capacity. The breakdown of this capacity is as follows:
Wind power plants: 365 megawatts
Solar power plants: 466 megawatts
Small-sized hydroelectric power plants: 99 megawatts
Biomass power plants: 12.5 megawatts
Expansion Turbines: 9.6 megawatts
Small retail power plants: 136 megawatts
Iran’s overall power generation capacity, including thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and other sources, is about 91,000 megawatt-hours. Thermal power plants account for 82 percent of this capacity.
