BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 24. Romania's import of crude oil and petroleum products from Azerbaijan has experienced a substantial surge, Eurostat, the European Union's statistical office, told Trend.

Romania has imported a total of 345,953 metric tons of these commodities from January to August 2023.

The total value of these imports for the same period amounted to a significant 206.2 million euros.

In August 2023, Azerbaijan significantly ramped up its supply to Romania, delivering 115,622 metric tons of crude oil and petroleum products. This marked an impressive increase of more than fourfold compared to the 28,500 metric tons shipped in July.

Romania's expenditures on these imports from Azerbaijan during August also saw a fourfold increase, reaching 68.5 million euros, up from the 16.5 million euros spent in July.

Oil from Azerbaijan is transported to neighboring countries and global markets through three major pipelines: Baku-Novorossiysk, Baku-Supsa, and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC). Currently, transportation via the Baku-Supsa pipeline is temporarily suspended.

In addition, oil is exported by rail to the Georgian terminals in Batumi and Kulevi.
