BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 15. Iran will use artificial intelligence to maintain and increase production from its oil and gas fields, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister and CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Mohsen Khojasteh Mehr said, Trend reports.
He made the remark at an event held in Tehran regarding the signing of a memorandum of understanding and a contract between the NIOC and the Science, Technology and Economic Knowledge Base Department of the Iranian President Office.
According to Khojasteh Mehr, on the first stage, it is planned to digitize 15 oil and gas fields of Iran with the use of artificial intelligence.
He added that with the digitization of the mentioned number of oil and gas fields, the costs on the fields will be significantly reduced. At the same time, it will be possible to monitor all processes of sustainable production of oil and gas and identify and solve problems.

Khojasteh Mehr noted that the use of artificial intelligence in the oil and gas sector is an important factor in obtaining modern equipment.
Three important steps are planned in this direction:
- Various working groups will be created at the level of small companies operating in oil and gas sector, and the members of the working group will be specialists of the NIOC, start-up companies, and skilled personnel of universities.
- A consortium of large technology contractors will be organized under the leadership of the Science, Technology and Economic Knowledge Base Office of the Presidential Office of Iran.
- Laboratories with necessary equipment will be created
