BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 29. Iran has reduced its liquid fuel consumption (including diesel, mazut, etc.) by 20 million liters per day since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023), compared to the same period last year, Iranian Oil Minister Javad Owji said, Trend reports.
He made the remark after the meeting of the Cabinet of Iran in Tehran on November 29, 2023.
He stated that the ministry has boosted the supply of gas to large industrial facilities and thermal power plants by 42 million cubic meters per day, which aids in environmental protection.
According to Owji, the ministry is also working on giving dual fuel alternatives for public vehicles, such as diesel-gasoline and gas and this would also have a positive impact on the environment.
He added that the average daily gas consumption of residential, commercial, and small-sized industrial sectors in Iran has been 465 million cubic meters since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023).
Iran stands second in the world for gas reserves, with about 34 trillion cubic meters of gas. The county's gas production capacity is currently more than 1 billion cubic meters per day.
On average, Iran currently produces about 259 billion cubic meters of gas annually and more than 800 million cubic meters daily.
Although gas consumption in the country is on average 720 million cubic meters per day, this consumption rises to 1.3 billion cubic meters per day in winter. This creates a daily shortage of 250–300 million cubic meters of gas consumption. Iran is looking for various ways to overcome this deficiency.
