BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 12. The volume of gas pumped into Iran’s Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility, located in the north-eastern province of Razavi Khorasan, increased by 15 percent since the beginning of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023), Managing Director of Iran's Shahid Hasheminejad Gas Refining Company Yahya Feyzi said, Trend reports.

According to Feyzi, total amount of gas pumped into the facility during this period reached 2.2 billion cubic meters.

The director also mentioned that on average, 10 million cubic meters of gas was being pumped into Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility per day.

He added that Shourijeh D plays will play an important role in gas supply in the northern and northeastern regions of Iran in winter.

The Shourijeh D underground gas storage facility, located in Razavi Khorasan Province, was launched in two phases. The first phase was completed in 2022 with a capacity of 2.25 billion cubic meters.

The second phase was initiated in December 2021 with a contract worth $2.2 billion between Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company and MAPNA Group. The contract involves drilling 28 wells, building a gas collection center, and installing compressors and other equipment. The second phase is expected to be completed in three years and stand operational for 20 years.

Once both phases are finished, Shourijeh D will be able to store up to 4.5 billion cubic meters of gas, which will help ensure the country’s gas supply during the cold months.
