BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 9. Analysis of the drilling results of the SDX-8 exploration well in the Shah Deniz field will help clarify bp's plans to develop this Caspian field, bp's Vice President for Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye Jim O'Leary told reporters during the conference in Baku, Trend reports.
"We completed drilling SDX-8 well in December 2023, the drilling was very difficult but we efficiently and safely reached the design mark of 7,000 meters. The well is mothballed for the time being while we analyze the results obtained from the drilling and process them. Based on the results of the analysis, a decision will be made on how to use the well and what are the plans for the field. Analyzing data on these types of complex wells takes a long time," O'Leary said.
During this period, the Heydar Aliyev semi-submersible drilling rig will be involved in other works at the Shah Deniz field.
To note, bp noted earlier that in case of successful results of drilling operations, the SDX-8 well will provide a clearer picture of drilling characteristics, production capabilities, and gas resource potential of deeper horizons located below the currently developed horizons in the eastern wing of the field.
