BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 27. A regular standard batch of liquefied natural gas (LNG) based on the contract between Azerbaijani SOCAR Trading and Pakistan LNG Limited (PLL) won't be delivered to the country in March, a source familiar with the matter exclusively told Trend.
“Pakistan hasn't formed government yet after the parliamentary election. This influenced absence of request from PLL for the LNG batch for March, as the implementation of any contracts must be approved by government agencies,” the source explained.
To note, in early February, SOCAR Trading delivered 65,000 tons of LNG from third countries to Pakistan (Azerbaijan itself does not produce LNG) - the first batch this year and the second since the signing of the contract between SOCAR Trading and PLL.
Previously, in July 2023, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) and PLL signed a one-year framework agreement on LNG supplies with the possibility of extension, which became an important milestone in bilateral energy cooperation between the two countries.
The Framework Agreement stipulates that SOCAR may offer PLL one shipload of LNG per month (65,000 tons), while PLL's acceptance of this offer is subject to the commercial considerations of the Pakistani company.
This ensures a stable supply of LNG to meet Pakistan's growing energy needs, and at competitive prices.
