Azerbaijan significantly reduces its crude oil purchase from Turkmenistan

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, May 20. Azerbaijan imported more than 30,500 tons of crude oil from Turkmenistan from January through March this year, Trend reports.

Data from the State Statistical Committee of Azerbaijan show that the volume of crude oil imported from Turkmenistan was 8 times less than in the first three months of 2023, which amounted to almost 249,400 tons.

In monetary terms, Azerbaijan's purchases of crude oil from Turkmenistan from January through March this year amounted to $17.3 million, which is almost nine times less than in the same period of 2023, when they amounted to $150.6 million.

Turkmenistan accounted for 13 percent of Azerbaijan's total purchases of crude oil from foreign countries in tonnage and also 13 percent in monetary terms.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijan purchased 551,680 tons of crude oil from Turkmenistan for the whole of 2023, which is 56.4 percent higher than in 2022 (352,715 tons).

The volume of purchases of crude oil by Azerbaijan from Turkmenistan in monetary terms in the previous year amounted to $317.54 million, which is 29.5 percent more than in the same period of 2022, when it amounted to $245.14 million.
