BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 27. Turkmenistan eyes membership in the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) to boost energy cooperation, a source in the GECF told Trend.
"GECF is engaged in dialogue with Turkmenistan to explore the potential benefits and advantages of its participation in the Forum. Our organization recognizes Turkmenistan's significant natural gas reserves and its role as a key exporter in the Central Asian region," the source said.
The representative of the organization noted that the GECF maintains an active and meaningful dialogue with Turkmenistan and all stakeholders in the natural gas sector to ensure market stability.
"The GECF supports robust and meaningful dialogue among all the natural gas producers, consumers, and other relevant stakeholders, with a view to ensuring the security of both demand and supply, fostering market stability, and underscoring the pivotal role of natural gas in socio-economic development and environmental protection, today and in the future," the source noted.
The GECF is an intergovernmental organization that provides a framework for exchanging experience and information among its member countries.
As the gathering of the world's leading gas exporting countries, the GECF seeks to build a mechanism for a meaningful dialogue between gas producers and consumers in order to improve the stability and security of supply and demand in gas markets around the world.
During a meeting with the Ambassador of Turkmenistan to Qatar, Myratgeldi Seyitmammedov, the Secretary General of the GECF, Mohamed Hamel, said in April this year that the organization considers Turkmenistan a potential member.
