BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 1. The Bulgarian market's gas demand in June 2024 was covered by Azerbaijani gas by 81 percent, reaching a peak figure, an informed source told Trend.

"It's difficult to predict the situation in July, as it will depend on Bulgaria's diversification of gas procurement sources," the source pointed out.

According to the source, Bulgaria requested an increase in gas supplies from Azerbaijan, and Azerbaijan agreed to find the necessary resources for this.

The source assumed that Azerbaijani gas supplies to Bulgaria in 2024 may exceed the planned volume of 1.5 billion cubic meters (five times more compared to the volume at the start of Azerbaijani gas supplies to Bulgaria in 2021).

"In 2024, one billion cubic meters will be supplied by the Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company from the Shah Deniz field, and over 500 million cubic meters may be independently supplied by SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) through the Malkoclar/Strandja node at the Türkiye-Bulgaria border," the source added.

To note, Bulgaria purchased 1.25 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas in 2023.
