BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 17. GRTgaz and Fluxys hydrogen, a subsidiary of Fluxys Belgium, have announced the launch of a market call aimed at assessing the needs and economic viability for the establishment of an open-access hydrogen transport infrastructure connecting France and Belgium, Trend reports via Fluxys Belgium.
This proposed 150-kilometer network is designed to link the industrial-port area of Dunkirk with the industrial zones of Ghent and Antwerp.
The call for expressions of interest will be open from October 16 to November 29, 2024. This initiative is a significant step toward creating a hydrogen transport network in Northwestern Europe, particularly as it aims to connect three major industrial ports of the North Sea.
In response to increasing market demands, GRTgaz and Fluxys hydrogen are proposing this shared cross-border infrastructure to enhance connectivity between the industrial hubs of Dunkirk, Ghent, and Antwerp. The network is expected to provide greater flexibility and supply diversity for industries looking to connect to hydrogen sources.
This market interest call is a critical first step in understanding the future needs of the market and is a prerequisite for the realization of this European interconnection, which was designated as a Project of Common Interest by the European Commission in 2024.
