Azerbaijani Energy Minister Says SOCAR May Supply   Georgia with Gas Only in Case of Emergency

Azerbaijan, Baku/ Trend / The negotiations between Georgia and Azerbaijan with the object to prolong th contract on SOCAR's supplying Georgia with gas has launched in Baku today. Nikolaz Gilauri,Georgia's Energy Minister has arrived in Baku to represent the Georgian party in the today's negotiations. Natig Aliyev, his Azerbaijani countrpart, has said today that it is difficult to say today whethere SOCAR (State Oil Companmy of Azerbaijan) would supply Georgia with gas till the end of 2007 or not.

"We had a contract on providing Georgia with gas within the fisrt quarter of 2007. We have fully implemented it. We could supply Georgia with all the contracted gas volume as it was stipulated by the contract," he said.

Georgia wants SOCAR to provide it with gas till the end of 2007. "In my opinion, SOCAR's gas may supplied Georgia with gas only in emergency states and situations," said Mr. Aliyev.

According to the Azerbaijani Minister, the situation with gas in Azerbaijan is not an ideal one at all. " Azerbaijan should first think about itself," concluded the Azerbaijani Energy Minister.
