Volume of Transportation through Aktau Port to Increase

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr I. Khalilova / The Deputy Director on Corporative Development of Aktau International Trade Sea Port, Dauren Kutpanbayev, reported on 17 April that the port will increase the volume of transportation up to 20mln tons of oil and oil products and to 3mln tons of dry cargo per year.

The cost of the three-year project comprises $300mln. The increase of trans-shipment volume will be possible by 2009.

The annual volume of trans-shipment for the time being makes up 11mln tons of oil and oil products.

According to Kutpanbayev, annual growth rate is 15%. Cooperation with Azerbaijan can be maintained through TRACECA and Inogate projects. Volume of transportation through the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars route will comprise some 2mln tons.
