Salyan Oil Company Put Under Social Control

Azerbaijan, Salyan / Trend corr E. Mammadov / The Committee on Protection of Oil Industry Workers' Rights has began the implementation of the project on social control over activities of the Salyan Oil operational company located in the Azerbaijani region of Salyan. The company is engaged in exploitation of Kursangy-Garabaghly field.

The purpose of the project is to highlight the problems, which appeared among the population residing in oil production regions. The chairman of the Committee, Mirvary Gahramanli, who had visited Salyan in order to get familiar with the project, noted during the meeting with the representatives of local community, NGO and ecologists that such projects are aimed at social control. The impact of the oil pipelines in Hajigabul and Samukh regions of Azerbaijan on the environment will be studied and a monitoring will be held afterwards.

The volume of oil produced by the Salyan Oil in March made up 27,430 tons, what is down by 2.2% as compared to the same period of 2006. Since the beginning of 2007 the company has produced 78,500 tons of oil.
