Statoil Names Potential Gas Consumption Markets under State 2 of Shah Deniz Project

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Aliyev / The Norwegian company Statoil thinks that the Azerbaijani market will be fully interesting for sale of Azerbaijani gas too be produced from Stage 2 of Shah Deniz gas project.

Byorn Ragnar Jacobson, Statoil Vice President, said talks with journalists in Baku on June 6 that under Stage 2 gas will be sold not only to Turkey, but also other European countries, as well as Azerbaijan and Georgia.

"In 2012 we would like to launch production from the Shah Deniz field under Stage 2," Jacobson said.

Statoil is for intensification and increasing of production at this stage.

"However, the production mostly depends on a concept on development of Stage 2, But is still under discussion," he added.

Meanwhile, the SOCAR thinks that with the consideration possible liberalization of the Azerbaijani gas market, the probability of its attractiveness for gas consumption for foreign partners under the Shah Deniz project increases. The company to sell gas under Stage 2 is still to be defined.

At present Stage 1 of Shah Deniz is under implementation, while Statoil is an operator of Azerbaijan Gas Supply Company, which was established for sale of gas from the field.

The Shah Deniz gas is transported via the South Caucasus Pipeline.
