SOCAR Completes First Stage of Construction of New Gas Pipeline

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) has put into operation the first part of a new gas pipeline intended to transport gas from the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field.

During the first stage, a 23km pipeline linking Sangachal terminal with Kalamaz underground gas-holder was constructed. The pipeline was tested and approved by the State Commission.

The pipeline is transporting some 5-6mln cu m of gas per 24 hours, from the Shah Deniz field to the underground gas-holder. The pipeline has been transmitted to the Azerigaz CJSC which is engaged in transportation and distribution of gas throughout Azerbaijan.

The project's construction was implemented by the Oil and Gas Construction trust of SOCAR. At present the trust, jointly with Azfen JV, is implementing the construction of the second part of the pipeline which is going to the Gazi-Mammad settlement. The construction is to be completed and put into operation in September.

The length of the pipeline linking Sangachal with Gazi-Mammad will be 47km with a diameter of 1,200mm.
