Volume of Oil Transportation via Batumi Port Increases

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Aliyev / In June 2007, 860,400t of oil and oil products was transported via Georgian Batumi port, compared to 867,500t in June 2006. In May, transportation totalled 717,500t, according to Reuters.

In 2006, the total amount of transported oil and like-products came to 11.7mln t compared to 9.7mln t in 2005.

The Batumi oil terminal is capable of handling up to 15mln t of bulk oil cargo a year. The terminal service tankers have a deadweight capacity of 30,000-90,000t, consisting of four berths, including a special buoy for the vessels of the Aframax class. Presently the terminal tank loading capacity is about 530,000t, which is more than enough for handling the current and forecasted cargos.
