In January-October 2018, the turnover of payment cards through ATMs and POS-terminals in Azerbaijan amounted to 1.588 billion manats, which is 24.06 percent more than in January-October 2017, Trend reports citing the Central Bank of Azerbaijan.
The total number of transactions with payment cards in January-October made up 10.798 million (an increase of 23.86 percent).
The number of operations on debit cards [both inside and outside the country] equaled to 9.633 million in the amount of 1.45 billion manats, of which almost 5.609 million operations in the amount of 1.091 billion manats were carried out through ATMs inside the country, and 1.138 million operations in the amount of 150 million manats - through POS-terminals.
In January-October 2018, the banks' customers carried out via credit cards [both inside and outside the country] 1.165 million operations totaling 139 million manats (over 332,000 operations amounting to 53 million manats - with the help of ATMs inside the country, and 377,000 operations amounting to 31 million manats - with the help of POS-terminals inside the country).
Number of payment cards, ATMs and POS-terminals
At the end of October, the number of payment cards increased by 10.76 percent to 6.424 million compared to the beginning of the year.
Most of the cards – about 5.9 million – refers to debit cards, in particular, 2.545 million – to social cards, 2.31 million - to payroll cards, and 1.045 million – to other types of cards. The number of credit cards for this period amounted to 803,000.
As of November 1, 2018, there were 2,492 ATMs in the country, of which 1,325 are in Baku, 1,167 are in other cities and regions of the country. In January-October, the total number of ATMs increased by 61, or 2.5 percent.
The number of POS-terminals in the country amounted to 65,862, of which 38,583 were installed in Baku, 27,279 were installed in other cities and regions of the country.
In January-October, the number of POS terminals in Azerbaijan increased by 391, or 0.6 percent.
Volume of transactions in ATMs and POS-terminals
In October, for 1000 people in Azerbaijan, there were four ATMs and 0.15 POS-terminal.
On average, 2,383.9 transactions amounting to 459,016 manats accounted for the share of one ATM in October. The amount of one transaction accounting for one ATM amounted to 192.5 manats.
On average, 23 transactions in the amount of 2,754 manats accounted for one POS terminal during the reporting period. The amount of one POS terminal transaction was 119.7 manats.
