Inflation in Kazakhstan exceeds 5%

Inflation in Kazakhstan in December 2018 amounted to 5.3 percent year-on-year, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

Over the year, food prices in Kazakhstan increased by 5.1 percent, non-food prices by 6.4 percent, and prices of paid services rose by 4.5 percent.

Since the beginning of last year, prices have increased for white cabbage (31 percent), sugar (20.9 percent), rennet cheese (11.9 percent), poultry meat (10.4 percent), canned milk (10.3 percent), butter (10.1 percent) and horse meat (9.6 percent).

Prices also rose for fresh milk (7.8 percent), sunflower oil (7.4 percent), sausages (7.2 percent), dairy products (7 percent), meat products (6.9 percent), pork and beef (6.7 percent) and confectionery (6.6 percent).

At the same time, the price decrease was recorded for potatoes (26.7 percent), buckwheat (21.6 percent), onions (18.4 percent) and carrots (16.3 percent).

The increase in car prices was 8.5 percent, building materials 8.1 percent, pharmaceuticals, clothing and footwear, household appliances by 7.8 percent each, textiles 7.7 percent, personal goods 6.8 percent, washing and cleaning products by 6.6 percent, office supplies by 5.9 percent, furniture and household goods by 5.4 percent.

Also, price of diesel fuel went up by 29.6 percent, liquefied gas in cylinders by 6 percent, and price of gasoline fell by 2.8 percent.

Prices also rose for travel by air passenger transport (16.4 percent), by rail (12.2 percent), intercity bus (7.9 percent), and intracity bus (4.9 percent).
