By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

Last year, 1.06 trillion tenge was invested in the economy of Astana, Kazakhstan’s capital, Trend reports referring to the Kazakh media.

"We reached this figure for the first time. This suggests that the city has become self-sufficient and attractive for investors, for small and medium-sized businesses," Alisher Abdykadyrov, head of the Investments and Entrepreneurship Development Department of Astana, said at a briefing.

He noted that if previously the city was financed from the state budget for almost half, today 86 percent of financing are private investment.

The main sectors for investment are real estate and transport.

"If we consider Astana as a project, it is very successful and cost-effective. For 20 years, some 2 trillion tenge was allocated from the state budget for the development of Astana, but the city returned 6 trillion tenge to the budget," Abdykadyrov noted.
