Money supply decreases in Kazakhstan

In April 2019, the volume of cash in circulation in Kazakhstan amounted to 2.207 trillion tenge, which is 0.6 percent more than in the previous month and 2.3 percent less than in December 2018, Trend reports citing Kazinform.

“Monetary aggregate M1, which includes cash and tenge denominated liquid deposits, equal to 5,411 trillion tenge, which is an increase of 0.2 percent compared to the March 2019 and a decrease of 3.5 percent since the beginning of the year,” the report says.

“In turn, monetary aggregate M2, which includes cash, tenge and foreign currency liquid deposits, has decreased by 0.4 percent (+0.8 percent in December 2018) and stood at 14.587 trillion tenge. The money supply decreased by 0.2 percent (decrease by seven percent) and amounted to 19.353 trillion tenge,' reads the message.

In April the monetary base (money of the National Bank of Kazakhstan) has decreased by 8.9 percent (-14.4 percent) and equaled 5.694 trillion tenge.

The monetary base in the narrow definition did not change compared to March 2019, but compared to the beginning of the year, it decreased by 15.2 percent and amounted to 5.086 trillion tenge. The volume of deposits of second tier banks and other organizations in National Bank of Kazakhstan stood at 3.158 trillion tenge, which is a decrease of 15.7 percent (-21.7 percent in December 2018).
