In order to facilitate cargo turnover in the ports of Georgia, the country has provided privileges to shipowners, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.
This measure is introduced on the initiative of Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia and national Maritime Transport Agency.
According to the changes, if the ship enters several ports of Georgia during the same voyage, it pays the full cost of the agency service at the first entrance, while the cost for the second and following entrances will be reduced by 50 percent.
As the Maritime Transport Agency of Georgia stated, previously, the shipowners had to pay the full fee every time the ship entered the port. For this reason, shipowners avoided unloading cargo in different ports (Batumi, Poti and Kulevi), which caused discontent among the companies receiving the cargo.
