Total assets of Georgian commercial banks increase

The volume of non-bank deposits in the banking sector of Georgia, amounted to 25.34 billion lari as of September 1, 2019, which is 344.90 million lari or 1.38 percent higher than the figure for August 1, Trend reports citing the National Bank of Georgia.

As of September 1, 2019, the banking sector of Georgia is represented by 15 commercial banks.

Compared to the previous month, the total assets of Georgian commercial banks (at current prices) increased by 571.5 million lari or 1.3 percent (1.4 percent excluding the impact of the exchange rate) and reached 44.9 billion lari on September 1, 2019 of the year.

Banking sector equity is 5.4 billion lari, which is 12.1 percent of the total assets of commercial banks.

According to the National Bank, in comparison with July, in August term deposits increased by 142.50 million lari, or 1.36 percent (an increase of 1.54 percent without the influence of the exchange rate), and demand deposits increased by 202.40 million lari , or 1.39 percent (an increase of 1.60 percent excluding the effect of the exchange rate).

The weighted average annual market interest rate on term deposits amounted to 5.25 percent, including 7.45 percent on deposits in national currency and 2.89 percent on deposits in foreign currency.

The share of the USD in deposits in foreign currency amounted to 84.91 percent, and the share of the euro - 13.51 percent.
