Education funding in Georgia has tripled in the last 10 years, Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Matchavariani said, Trend reports via the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.
He said that for 2020 about 1.9 billion lari ($640 million) has been allocated for education, while the entire state budget for 2020 will be 16 billion lari ($5.4 billion).
Matchavariani said that the share of education funding in the entire state budget increased by 11.9 percent in 2020, while in 2010 it was 8.2 percent.
He also spoke about the education infrastructure and said that more than 280 million lari ($101.5 million) will be spent on it in 2020.
The minister said that a new school model system is planned to be implemented by 2020, which includes implementation and development of new approaches and the integration of digital technologies in the learning process.
He noted that the new school model will be implemented in more than 300 schools by 2020, where more than 140,000 students and over 12,000 teachers will be involved.
Matchavariani also said that more than 70 new schools are planned to be built in 2020, about 100 schools are going to be fully reconstructed and also over 670 schools will be repaired.
He said that the construction of the Education and Science City will be completed in Tbilisi and Batumi by 2020.
