Volume of transactions on corporate securities increases in Azerbaijan

From January through October 2019, the total volume of transactions on corporate securities at the Baku Stock Exchange (BSE) amounted to 884.7 million manat ($521.4 million), Trend reports with reference to the exchange’s reporting data.

At the same time, during the same period in 2018, the volume of transactions on corporate securities amounted to 715.7 million manat ($421.8 million). As a result, the growth of the total volume of transactions in the first ten months amounted to 23.6 percent.

Among the operations, 48 ​​transactions worth 145.4 million manat ($85.7 million) were concluded in the primary market, which is half as much as in the same period in 2018. Twenty transactions of this volume were concluded on mortgage bonds in the total amount of 130.7 million manat ($77 million, or a decrease of 25.5 percent).

In the primary market from January through October 2019, two shares were sold for a total of 300,000 manat ($176,832), while in the same period in 2018, 64 shares were sold in the primary market for 99.4 million manat ($58.5 million).

The secondary market accounted for 2,046 operations with a total volume of 739.2 million manat ($435.7 million). Their share amounted to 83 percent of the total volume and 98 percent of the total number of transactions on corporate securities. Also, 1,578 shares worth 1.8 million manat ($1 million) were sold in the secondary market, which is almost 23 times less than in the period from January through October 2018.

Repo (repurchase agreement) transactions on corporate securities amounted to 7.1 million manat ($4.1 million, or a decrease of almost four times). In total, from January through October 2019, 11 repo transactions were carried out at the BSE. This is 20 transactions less than in the first ten months of the previous year.
