From January through October 2019, Azerbaijan’s National Depository Center registered 517 repo (repurchase agreement) transactions worth over 880 million manat ($518.7 million), Trend reports referring to statistical data of the center.
Compared to the same period last year, the total number of repo transactions increased by 71.2 percent, their share in local currency increased by 8.4 percent and amounted to 504 transactions (97.5 percent of the total number), due to sharp reduction in transactions in US dollars - for the whole period, eight such transactions were concluded (3.2 percent), which is 2.5 times less than in the same period last year.
The total volume of registered repo transactions - 873,909 manat ($515,126) and 7.161 million manat ($4.2 million), respectively - increased by almost 60 percent compared to the period from January through October 2018. The share of transactions concluded in local currency increased by 66.8 percent and amounted to 99.3 percent of the total volume due to decrease in the volume of registered transactions in US dollars by almost four times.
In total, from January through October 2019, Azerbaijan’s National Depository Center registered 1,056 transactions worth $1.5 billion. Compared to the period from January through October 2018, the volume of such transactions increased by 1.5 times.
Compared to the same period last year, the total number of transactions registered by Azerbaijan’s National Depository Center in local currency increased by 12.8 percent, amounting to 970 transactions. The number of transactions in US dollars decreased by 27.8 percent and amounted to 86 transactions.
