Securities market in Azerbaijan grows

The insignificant growth rates were observed in the Azerbaijani securities market in 2019, Trend reports referring to a report on the activity of the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers in 2019 submitted to the Azerbaijani parliament.

“The total volume of trade turnover in the investment securities market increased by 1.5 percent (234 million manat that’s $137 million) in 2019 compared to 2018, amounting to 16.4 billion manat ($9.6 billion),” the report said.

In accordance with the report, the primary securities market decreased by nine percent compared to the previous year (1.2 billion manat that’s $705.8 million), amounting to 13.2 billion manat ($7.8 billion), the secondary market grew by 84 percent (1.5 billion manat that’s $882.3 million), amounting to 3.2 billion manat ($1.9 billion).

Thus, 1,880 transactions were carried out in the primary market, 1,581 of which were carried out in the state securities market and 299 - in the corporate securities market.

Some 4,192 transactions were conducted in the secondary market, including 2,978 and 596 transactions in the corporate and state securities market, respectively.

In general, the corporate securities market grew by 58 percent (1.3 billion manat that’s $764.7 million). Some 3,277 transactions worth 3.48 billion manat (over $2 billion) were conducted. The state securities market volume decreased by 12 percent (1.6 billion manat that’s $941.2 million). Some 2,177 transactions worth 11.78 billion manat ($6.9 billion) were conducted.

Accordingly, the share of the state securities market accounted for about 72 percent, the share of the corporate securities market - 21 percent of the total securities market. The remaining seven percent accounted for the repo market. Over the reporting year, the repo market in Azerbaijan grew by 83 percent (511 million manat that’s $300.6 million), amounting to 1.1 billion manat ($647 million).
