By Tamilla Mammadova - Trend:

Additional $1.5 billion will be provided to support Georgia’s economy till the end of the year, Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said during the special briefing on April 14, Trend reports with reference to Georgian media.

Gakharia expressed gratitude to the European Union, Asian Development Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, European Investment Bank and several financial organizations for the support.

“We have had and maintain close relations with our financial sector. Together with the sector, we held negotiations with donors. As a result, an agreement was reached that these organizations will provide assistance to the private, financial and real sectors of Georgia in the amount of $1.5 billion,” the prime minister noted.

Prime minister explained that the donations will be allocated to the state budget and various projects.

Gakharia added that Georgia will be the first country, which will be able to agree on conditions to extend the program with the International Monetary Fund.

“This will mean additional $447 million for Georgia’s economy during one year,” he said.

According to him, the Georgian government will offer financial assistance to citizens who have lost their jobs.

“Assistance in the amount of 150 lari ($47.54) is not sufficient, therefore this amount will increase, since it is below the subsistence level,” said Gakharia.

Meanwhile, in a report published by the International Monetary Fund, it is stated that the Georgian government will monthly pay 150 lari ($47.54) for citizens who are left without work for six months.
