Georgia to receive grants to support immediate, short-terms needs

BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 14

By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

European Union (EU) Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen sent a letter to Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili in which she welcomed the intention of Zourabichvili to visit Brussels once the public health situation allows, Trend reports referring to Georgian president’s press service.

Leyen said that the meeting would be an opportunity to discuss new steps in EU-Georgia relations after the successful conclusion of 10 years of the Eastern Partnership.

"Georgia is an important partner for the EU, and the European Commission is committed to further advance our bilateral relations,” said the letter.

The letter reads that Georgia will receive more than 183 million euros in grants to support immediate and short-terms needs in face of the coronavirus.

The Eastern Partnership is a joint policy initiative which aims to deepen and strengthen relations between the European Union (EU), its Member States and its six Eastern neighbors: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.
