Average monthly salary grows in Azerbaijan

As a result of increasing salaries and accelerating the development of the private business sector, the average monthly nominal salary in Azerbaijan reached 744.5 manat ($437.9) from January through March 2020, Trend reports on May 20 referring to the data of the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

In general, the average monthly nominal salary from January through March 2020 was by 28.9 percent more than from January through March 2019.

As of April 1, 2020, the number of hired employees in the country's economy increased by 4.1 percent compared to the same period of 2019 and reached 1.6 million people, 911,700 of them were employed in the public sector while 734,400 - in the private sector.

Some 20.3 percent of hired workers in the country are involved in education sector, 17.9 percent - in trade sector, 13 percent - in industry, 8.2 percent - in health and social welfare sector, 7.5 percent - in construction, 6.9 percent - public administration and defense; 4.6 percent - transport and warehousing, 3.5 percent - professional, scientific and technical activity, 3.3 percent - agriculture, forestry and fisheries, 1.8 percent - financial and insurance activity, 13 percent - in other spheres of the economy.

As a result of comprehensive social reforms carried out upon the relevant decrees of the Azerbaijani president, starting from September 1, the minimum salary in the country will be increased up to 250 manat ($147), which will greatly increase the salaries of civil servants, employees of several budgetary institutions, enterprises and organizations, state oil companies.
