Azerbaijan hikes silkworm cocoon production

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13

Value of livestock products in Azerbaijan increased by 3.2 percent, amounting to 1.7 billion manat ($1 billion), and crop production - by 5.3 percent, amounting to 443 million manat ($260.5 million) from January through May 2020, Trend reports on June 13 referring to the country’s State Statistical Committee.

According to the committee, over the reporting period, 207,500 tons of meat (increase by 3 percent compared to the same period in 2019), 859.4 million tons of milk (up 1.6 percent), 836.3 billion eggs (growth by 9.3 percent), 12,200 tons of wool (rise by 0.1 percent), and 18.3 tons of silkworm cocoon (spike by 9.7 times) were produced in the country.

In the first five months of this year, 196,100 tons of potatoes (an increase of 13.7 percent) and 287,000 tons of other vegetables were grown, which is 16.2 percent more than in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the total volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan in actual prices amounted to about 2.1 billion manat ($1.2 billion), which is 3.6 percent more than from January through May 2019.
